Port Blair, Sept. 18: Braving the heavy rain and wind, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M), Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee along with other leaders visited the flood-affected Old Pahargaon Telugu Basthi area today in the evening of 17th Sept. 2023 and met the affected people. Following the heavy rain, water entered the said residential area and a large number of houses were submerged in the flash flood. Affected people told the CPI (M) leaders that a number of people lost their clothes, food items, books and uniforms of students besides causing damage to furniture and other household items. 

On the auspicious occasion of 'Ganesh Chaturthi', I convey my warmest greetings to all the residents of A&N Islands.

This festival is a symbol of the enthusiasm, zeal and joy of our countrymen. Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles, is revered as the embodiment of knowledge, prosperity and good fortune. Port Blair, Sept. 18: Second International Conference on “Prospects and challenges of environment and biological sciences in food production system for livelihood security of farmers (ICFPL-2023)” jointly organized by Pragati International Scientific Research Foundation (PISRF), Meerut, UP, India and Andaman Science Association (ASA), Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, (SVPUAT), Meerut, India, from September 18-20, 2023 at ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair got inaugurated today. More than 200 delegates from 24 states and 2 UTs are participating in three days’ International seminar.

Diglipur, Sept. 18: Acting swiftly on the complaint of hit and run blind case at Madhupur Road, Diglipur the Police team of Diglipur arrested one accused within 24 hours.

On 17/09/23 a complaint was received at PS Diglipur from one Shri Subrata Halder resident of Subashgram, Diglipur that on 17/09/23, at around 0815 pm one of his friend namely Ashim Das, who is a resident of Jalpaiguni, West Bengal were walking from the left side of the main road suddenly an auto rickshaw came in high speed from Laxmipur side and hit Ashim Das due to which he fell on the road and got hit on his head and the sustained head injury, falling unconscious. Due to the darkness on road and lack of street lights, the complainant could not see the Registration Number of auto rickshaw. As the auto driver fled away from the spot after the collision, during the treatment the victim succumbed to his injury.
